Italian is a Romance language spoken by about 80 million people primarily in Italy.

Italian is the official language of Italy and San Marino, and one of the official languages of Switzerland, (spoken mainly in Ticino and Grigioni.)


The presence of Italian people is very substantial above all in Latin America. The presence of Italian language, mostly the northern dialects, is abundant in Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. In these countries, the Spanish and the Portuguese languages are influenced by Italian particularly in (i.e. Rio Grande do Sul, Cordoba, Chipilo etc.).1

Throughout the world, Italian is the fifth most taught non-native language, after English, French, Spanish and German. 1
